Michigan law requires the Township Clerk to carry out three major responsibilities involving township recordkeeping, financial operations and elections. The Clerk is required to be bonded, and election law requires the clerk obtain and maintain credentials defined by the state. The townships financial records and procedures of the clerk’s office must undergo an independent audit bi-annually from a firm who meets state standards as required by law. The clerk must appoint a deputy clerk who shall carry out the duties and powers of the clerk if incapacitated or death and may be assigned by the clerk to carry out other duties of the clerk. The Deputy Clerk may be paid for duties with an agreement of the Board and the Clerk. However, the Deputy Clerk may not vote on township matters. The Felch Township Clerk oversees Cemetery operations and record keeping. The clerk may appoint a cemetery sexton who is required to be confirmed by the township board to assist in cemetery operations and record keeping.
All jurisdictions in Dickinson County have a consolidated location for early voting. The Dickinson County Clerk runs the early elections with qualified election inspectors provided by each jurisdiction. The election site has been the Kingsford City Hall. The dates, times and place that early in-person voting is held will be published here prior to each election.
Early Voting is also available by Absentee Ballots that are mailed to your home to vote and then a voter returns the ballot by US Mail with a self-addressed postage paid envelope included. Or by placing it in a secure drop box that is located at the Community Center W4243 State Hwy M69, Felch, MI. The drop box is available 24×7 and monitored by CCTV Cameras. The box is checked daily and ballots in the box removed to secure storage in the clerk’s office until they are tallied on election day.
